30 Years Ago Uncontollable Urge

A Day Off

Just checking out some websites at Starbucks (gotta finish before the free wifi runs out) and killing some time before meeting a friend for lunch. I always seem to be at some crossroads in my life.
It's a bright, pretty day out today after a day of rain and cool weather. It's the kind of day that can give you some hope for the future. Ah, I am SO looking forward to Spring.

Why We Need Government Run Health Care

One More to Go

Yes, it's just about December. Not my favorite month of the year, but certainly the busiest. Already looking forward to Spring which always seem s like it is full of possibilities. Well, have a good night, everyone.

Thanksgiving 09

Got up very late today, as planned. In fact, I'm back in bed with a cup of coffee. Not much planned for today. Going to visit my aunt around 2pm and maybe catch a showing of The Fantastic Mr Fox around 5pm. Looks to be nice outside. A nice quiet day.

DEVO- Uncontrollable Urge LIVE

Used my new Canon PowerShot SD780is to shoot this at the 9:30 Club in Washington DC last night. Not too bad...

It's Been A While

Well, what can I tell you? I've been busy at work and the fall is in full force, so not a whole lot to report on my front....until this weekend. Did a quick drive to DC in order to catch DEVO at the 9:30 club (I'm still in DC, actually..). It was great fun.
Funny moment, Shayne is driving around looking for parking and he pulls up to one of these manned lots. The guy says $20 to park, Shanyne says no thanks. The guy then asks Shayne how much he wants to pay to park. Shayne comes back with $7. The Guy says no thanks, we proceed to leave and the guy is telling his friend about the conversation. We for parking for free about two blocks away.
Took some pix and video of the band that I should have up later today. I'm impressed by my new camera as I think the video looks really pretty good for a point and shoot camera.

Halloween 2009

Well, it's almost over. Another Halloween come and gone. Pretty boring one this year. Lots of rain and lack of anything going on. I did watch a restored version of Night of the Living Dead on AMC.
Hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween!

The Great Evil of Socialism

Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, universal health care and help for the poor are all certainly great evils of socialism. Let's add the interstate highway system, the police, fire department, military, and inspecting our air and water to meet federal standards. These must be great evils as well, as they are paid for with our taxes.

Sorry, but it's been the Reaganomics of the past 30 years that put this country on the brink of disaster: Constant deregulation, breaking up unions, cutting taxes on the wealthy while enriching them and hoping for a "trickle-down" to the rest of us. While corporations got rich, the rest of us were forced to shoulder the burden. America was becoming a country only a corporatist would love.

Well, it's time for some cold, hard truths to smack these people back to reality. Government can and should do some things to enrich and better our society, and we should pay taxes to support it.

Not only that, but those who benefit the most should pay the most. The America of the Republican Party is one of class warfare, debt shouldered by the middle class and poor, and hopelessness. It will take time to fix what 30 years of Reaganomics and self-centeredness have caused. I hope that the Democrats and the American people are up to the challenge.
